Before Arrival

We’ve listed just a few important things that you’ll need to get sorted before you come to Staffordshire University. Taking care of them now will help you get off to a great start and settle more quickly into student life.

  • E-enrol
  • Upload or post your photo
  • Find out about your course by visiting your Faculty Induction web page
  • Get Vaccinated
  • See the Dentist
  • Open a Bank account
  • Finance
  • Check what to bring
  • Sort out accommodation

Before you begin your course you will receive numerous communications from us at different stages, if you haven't received these then please contact the relevant department in order that they can send them to you.

E-enrol

By far the most important thing to do next is to e-enrol with us.  This is a formal process that officially registers you as a student of Staffordshire University. Quick and easy, e-enrolment takes only a few minutes to complete and is done online. Visit our Information Centre to find out more on e-enrolment.

Disability support at enrolment
Let us know promptly about your disability and we will aim to arrange support for your enrolment, registration and induction. For daily living support needs, please contact your local Social Services Department immediately.

The University will also be running an induction programme for disabled students. Please contact the Student Enabling Centre for more information.

Upload or post your photo

We need a passport-sized photograph of yourself to create your Student Card – your passport to the Students’ carpark, Union, libraries, IT facilities and more. Upload a digital photograph when you e-enrol or post a paper copy with the tear-off slip in the 'hurry' insert (PDF, file size: 113.13KB) . Please send us your photograph, otherwise your Student Card won’t be ready for the start of the semester.

Your course

Health

If you have not already been immunised for meningitis, or had two doses of the mumps (MMR) vaccine, even if you think you have already had mumps, it is very important to arrange for vaccinations before you arrive at the University. Speak to your current doctor or to Student Health Services if you need to know more.

See the dentist
If you are already registered with a dentist, try to arrange a check-up before term starts. This is because in Stoke and Stafford, like everywhere else, access to NHS dentists is limited.  For dental emergencies call: 01782 425846 or visit NHS website to find a dentist.

Finance

Open a bank account
You’ll need a bank account so that your student loan and bursary (if appropriate) can be paid in. If you don’t already have one, please open a bank account before you arrive.

Finance
Have you applied to Student Finance England,  in order to fund your course? If you haven’t, visit the Students' Union Money Doctors Page for information on what you may be eligible for and how to access it.

Also, see the Frequently Asked Questions page for more finance information.

Check what to bring

If you’re staying on campus, you’ll obviously need clothes, music, toiletries and all sorts of everyday things. Whether you’re living on campus or travelling to us daily, however, don’t leave home without…

  • Some cash/perhaps even a credit card.
  • Campus address and directions.
  • Certificates of previous study or original transcripts, if not already sent to us.
  • Medical card - plus any important information about your medical history. Remember, this is not necessary if you are already registered with a local GP.
  • Any repeat prescription details - plus the repeat prescription tear-off slip from your last prescription. Again, this is not necessary if you’re already registered with a local GP.
  • Student Finance England Support notification form. If you have received confirmation of your payments.
  • Proof of Identity – we need two forms of personal ID. One must include a photograph (e.g. passport or driving licence). For a list of acceptable documents visit the Student Information Centre.
  • Address book – for keeping in touch old friends/jotting down new friends’ addresses.
  • Camera – to capture all those Welcome Week moments.
  • Photos of friends and family, to decorate your room, if you’re moving into new accommodation.

If your family lives close to campus you may decide to commute each day. In which case, you’ll need to check out bus or train times. Similarly, if driving in, make sure you know the way.  Campuses and directions
