Step Ahead @ Staffs

Step Ahead is a Widening Participation initiative for potential undergraduate students here at Staffordshire University.

Step Ahead is about preparing you for both the academic and social life at University and it is offered completely free of charge. We offer a series of events over the summer with either residential events lasting 3 days or non-residential events of 2 days duration.

We cover a wide range of areas during the events, inclusive of: undergraduate study skills, campus and area orientation, time and budget management sessions, as well as introducing you to the practical aspects of University life (further content details can be found on these web pages – content may vary between residential and non-residential events).

Students who attend Step Ahead plan on studying a different mix of undergraduate courses across the Universities Faculties and Schools. Due to this diversity of students on Step Ahead it will not be feasible to cover material related directly to your chosen University course, rather you will develop a range of generic skills, knowledge, confidence, and make lots of new friends. All of this will help you in your first year and beyond at University.

In addition to the contact time the University provides all meals, accommodation and an evening social programme at the residential events. Lunch is provided on non-residential events. All of it free of charge.

Once you have completed Step Ahead we know you will be fully prepared and raring to start your studies at Staffs.
