Counselling - Student Enabling Centre

We all experience problems and difficulties which affect our mental wellbeing and as a student you may well find yourself experiencing such difficulties.  These difficulties might be related to issues and events at university or they might be connected to previous experiences or issues in your personal life.  Counselling offers the opportunity to talk to someone in a confidential and supportive setting, hopefully enabling you to find ways of managing or overcoming your difficulties, so that you can fulfil your potential in your studies and enjoy your time here at Staffordshire University.

We have counsellors based at the Stafford and Stoke campuses and you can access us at any point whilst you are a student at the University. If counselling is not helpful or appropriate, we can also refer you onto other support services, both within and external to the University. The University has close links with GP practices in Stafford and Stoke and also employs Specialist Student Advisors, so you can contact them for support as well if needed.

You can e-mail, telephone or visit us in person to make an appointment but please note that our e-mail address is for making appointments only.  It is checked during office hours by the reception staff who will then respond to your request, usually within 1 day of receiving your email (excluding weekends). Please specify at which site you would like the appointment and whether you have had counselling here before.  If you have a preference for seeing a male or female counsellor please let us know.

We are open 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday, including vacations.  (The University is closed on certain days including public holidays.)

Please see the links on the left of the screen or below if you are seeking support when we are closed.

If you are a Staffordshire University student studying at a partner College and wish to access counselling, you will need to do this at the College where you are studying.  For a list of SURF colleges, please click here.
