Making an Appointment

You can make an appointment to see a counsellor by telephoning, emailing or visiting our reception in Stoke or Stafford. We aim to offer students an assessment appointment within one week at Stoke or Stafford.

Your first counselling appointment will be an assessment session, during which the counsellor will discuss with you whether counselling from this Centre is appropriate and if you would like further appointments, as well as what other support is available. (During busy periods, there may be a short waiting time for further appointments.) If counselling from this Centre is appropriate, you will be offered up to five further appointments.

  • Appointments will usually be on a weekly basis and can be booked each week.
  • If you are unable to keep an appointment it is important that you let us know so the appointment can be offered to another student.  (You are welcome to book another appointment if you would like one.)
  • Please note that missed or cancelled appointments will be counted as part of your agreed number of appointments (unless you are unable to attend an appointment due to illness or other exceptional circumstances).

If you would like information about accessing other support while you are waiting for a counselling appointment, please see our Information Sheet - while you are waiting (PDF, file size: 23.56KB) .
