About Student Health Services

NHS medical services are available to students at our Stoke and Stafford campuses. Surgeries are held each weekday during term-time.

GP Registration

If you live in an area for three months or more, you should register with a General Practitioner (GP) close to your address. You are advised to do so quickly as it will help you receive treatment, should you need it. GP contact details can be found via the NHS website or through telephone directory services. If you return home during the vacation, it is not necessary to re-register with your GP at home. You can ask to be treated as a temporary resident.

Help with NHS charges

An application form (HC1) for help with NHS charges is available from the Student Advice Centres (in the Students' Union) or either of the Student GP Practices, renewable every six months.

Tip: Most people become liable to pay for prescriptions when they reach 19, so it is advisable to attend for any necessary dental, optical and other NHS consultations before your 19th birthday.
