Kylie Stevens - Operating Department Practice

I was interested in studying Nursing and Midwifery at Staffordshire University, but saw the Operating Department Practice course in the prospectus and it really appealed to me.

Also, as it’s only a two-year course, I should be in the world of work sooner.

My course covers three areas – anaesthetics, surgery and post-operative recovery – and also involves lots of theory and practical experience.

I’ve had placements at Stafford General Hospital, on their intensive care unit, and at Cannock Hospital.

I’ve helped an anaesthetist, assisted a surgeon and taken care of patients in the recovery room. All this experience has helped me to gain confidence, work to deadlines and be professional.

Thomas Hutchinson - BSc(Hons) Computer Science

Although I applied to five universities, the people at Staffs Uni looked as though they could really equip me for a job after graduation.

They were also happy to accept grades in other subject areas.

At Staffordshire, Computer Science involves using your mind to solve problems. You get to learn a broad range of subjects, so you’re not just boxing yourself into one area.

The course is really interesting. The facilities are top-notch. There’s a broad range of software and a lot of computers – so you’re always guaranteed a PC.

As for the lecturers, they’re very knowledgeable. All in all, Staffs Uni is a great choice. Plus their links with employers lead to so many opportunities.

Elena Lukanov - BA(Hons) Business Studies

I chose Business Studies at Staffordshire University because I wanted to better understand how business works in the world as well as the mechanisms that are behind it.

I studied for two years at Bochum University in Germany, then moved to Staffordshire for my final year after hearing about the Business School’s excellent reputation.

My course is concerned with real-life business situations and has made me aware of the complex environment in which business operates.

The lecturers are very experienced and give lots of examples of how the theory behind business is often different in real life.

They are also very good at explaining complex issues in an easy to understand way.

James Holmes - LLB(Hons) Law

Telling people you’re at Staffordshire University really counts for something.

The Law School has a fantastic reputation among the legal profession and the LLB is accredited by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Bar Standards Board.

Many of the lecturers are solicitors or barristers and are highly regarded in their fields. Several have also written academic textbooks.

All the lecturers are really friendly, knowledgeable and approachable and will always make time to see you.

I love the fact we work in small tutorial groups. This allows for an incredible level of interaction between you and the staff – the sort you couldn’t really pay for.

Sam Fitch - BA(Hons) Broadcast Journalism

Staffordshire University was recommended to me by a lecturer at another uni.

He suggested I looked here because of the high quality facilities. And he was right, they’re brilliant.

Everything we do on the Staffs Broadcast Journalism degree course is invaluable for a career in TV or radio.

The broadcast newsroom is incredible and everything is really hands-on. For example, we’re not just told about still cameras, TV cameras and Marantz pro recorders… we get to use them.

The lecturers are really good too. You only need ask them for help or advice. Most important of all, they have so much industry experience to share with you.

Seb Jones - BSc(Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation

At Staffs Uni we have access to incredible real-life crime scene facilities, including a crime scene house and an aircraft.

We are taught by professional forensic scientists and experienced crime scene investigators. They all know exactly what future employers will be looking for and make sure we know all about gathering and analysing evidence. It’s amazing working your way through an area, collecting evidence as you go.

I know I won’t be the only student to say this, but everyone at Staffordshire Uni is so supportive. It’s easy to see a lecturer whenever you have a question or a problem. Their doors are always open... plus their expertise helps in maximising your grades.
