Our education liaison team

Our education liaison team works with schools and colleges locally and regionally, and our aim is to work with students from Year 7 to Year 13 and beyond. The full team consists of:

  • Post-16 Team

  • Pre-16 Team

  • Student Advisors

  • Student Ambassador Team

Through education and liaison the team aims to:

  • Work with and develop links with schools and colleges locally

  • Challenge barriers into Higher Education

  • Encourage progression to higher education through the delivery of fun and exciting innovative workshops and materials

  • Promote higher education – building on their own first hand experience - they have asked all the questions your students want to ask!

  • Provide long-term, intensive contact with students supporting those who are unsure about their next steps, addressing individual worries and needs

We do this through a number of presentations and interactive workshops which cover every aspect of Higher Education, from the early provision of contact with students who are already at university and raising aspirations, through to presentations to those students in sixth form or 1st and 2nd year at college. Helping your students understand the process, know the pitfalls, complete a relevant application, get help around understanding student finance is what the team is here to do… and we come to parents evenings too!
We run a series of fun and interactive workshops as well as useful presentations on all matters - higher education. Below is a list of talks and workshops on offer.

Liaison Officers (Post 16) and Student Advisors

Staffordshire University’s dedicated and specialist Education Liaison Officers also work together with a team of Student Advisors. Working predominantly with post-16 students their role is to support prospective students, parents, Teachers and Careers Advisers that may be looking for information on all aspects about study and Staffordshire University, in addition to Higher Education in general.

The team members regularly visit schools and colleges within Staffordshire, the West Midlands, the East Midlands and surrounding areas to support students with the transition from Further Education to Higher Education. To assist in this, current students sometimes accompany the teams and share their experiences of university life. We also attend a number of higher education conventions throughout the UK which are part of the UCAS calendar of events.

The Student Advisor Team are all recent graduates with an enthusiasm for promoting the benefits of higher education, raising aspirations and awareness, and giving support where needed.  Their aim is to de-mystify the university experience and give students a real flavour of life in Higher Education. Advisors work on a one to one basis with individual students who may have concerns about going to university. They can see students in school or college and can arrange such things as individual visits to the campus, attendance at lectures and meetings with, and the shadowing of current students.

Our Pre 16 Team

The Pre-16 Team at Staffordshire University is dedicated to formulating close working partnerships to help our local children to succeed at school and so raise aspirations, and widen participation around education, including higher education.
We can do this in a number of ways, either through a formal plan whereby we work with you to create a schedule of interactions over the years, from Year 7 to Year 11, or we can simply provide one-off talks.

Student Ambassadors

Working with the team is our dedicated team of Student Ambassadors, who are all current Staffordshire University students. The Ambassadors provide essential support to the work of the team, giving your students the opportunity to find out the real picture of student life. All of our ambassador team are highly trained to facilitate workshop activities, helping to raise aspirations and an awareness of Higher Education.

They can be a source of inspiration and motivation to your students, as well as providing valuable information and guidance. The students in the ambassador team also work on HE conventions, Open Days and a variety of other events, so they can often be found around campus. If your students are lucky enough to attend a Summer School, they will be there 24/7 to give them a fantastic experience they won’t forget!
