Professor Tom Crick MBE is Professor of Computer Science & Public Policy at Swansea University, Vice-President of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and Chair of CAS Wales. He was appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for “services to computer science and the promotion of computer science education”.

With a background in computer science and informatics, his research interests are naturally interdisciplinary and sit at the research/public policy interface: data science, intelligent systems, software sustainability, computational reproducibility, digital transformations, public service innovation, skills/infrastructure for the digital economy, and most relevant to the Computer Science in Schools Conference, STEM education and curriculum policy.

In September 2013, he chaired the Welsh Government’s review of the ICT curriculum and was a member of the Welsh Government’s National Digital Learning Council, as well as the UK Digital Skills Taskforce. In 2016, he chaired the development of a new cross-curricular Digital Competence Framework for all schools in Wales. Tom is now chairing the development of the Science & Technology “Area of Learning and Experience” in the new Curriculum for Wales.
His keynote at the Computer Science in Schools Conference 2018 is Cross-curricula delivery of Computer Science in Schools.
