Creative Writing Open Mic Night

Microphone by BJWOK

Tuesday 7th December, 8pm @ The White Star in Stoke

On December 7th creative juices will be flowing in abundance at The White Star in Stoke for Creative Writing’s 'Open Mic Night'.

Performers and spectators gather to share and enjoy hidden talents of creativity on the first Tuesday of each month during term time, and Staffordshire University students regularly feature on the night.

The night has something for everyone, and past performances range from literature, performance, and music, to beat-boxing and ventriloquism.

So how do you get involved?

“Really simple - just turn up at the event!” says Lisa Mansell, who organises the popular night.

The night is free for performers and £1 entry for spectators.

Lisa summed up the night as: “Poetry and pints, prose and pork scratching - the beer’s good and the reader’s event better!”

English Literature and Creative Writing student, Andrew Harr, went to the first open mic night this term: “It’s a really relaxed and friendly atmosphere. People were nervous but the audience is usually quite receptive. It’s a good place to showcase your work and they’re very liberal on what you can do.”

Krishen Coupland, a Creative Writing graduate, has been going since the events first ran two years ago, and says: “It’s a livewire of eclectic entertainment.”
