“Rising Star” Andy Cooke reaches for the sky

Relentless Snowboard design by Andy Cooke

Graphic Design graduate Andy Cooke is scaling the career ladder. Just months after completing his course in summer 2010, he was named a ‘Rising Star’ by industry magazine Design Week. Now, he has been promoted to co-head of design at the London design agency, Erasmus.
Andy said the best thing about his course at Staffordshire was that it “got me interested. The desire to learn and discover as much as I could while at university was essential. Because of this I was able to secure industry placements prior to me being employed full-time which provided valuable experience. Graphic design is not just a job for me, it’s a lifestyle.”
He added, “The tutors taught me to think how they would, which I employ with every project I undertake. Our contrasts in opinion really taught me to be strong-willed, and include my own thoughts and ideas into a project.”

Award Manager Barbara Ridley said, “When I opened my October copy of Design Week I was thrilled to see Andy featured in their ‘Rising Stars’ supplement. During his time here, he created many opportunities for himself by networking, contacting industry, taking up work placement opportunities and using social media to its fullest potential.”

Andy remains modest about his success. “In 2010 I did more than I ever could have dreamt of this time last year! I was involved in some amazing, high profile projects with big budgets. One budget was $1,500,000! Now I’ve been promoted, I'm looking forward to conversing with clients, employing other designers and controlling work flows for projects. My ultimate goal is to run my own studio.”
