Big Society interview gets big premier

Two journalism students have seen their work appear on ITV1.
MA Broadcast Journalism students James Maidment-Fullard and John Hudson were shocked and delighted to recognise their clip of a woman in Hanley (Pictured) voicing her opinion of the Big Society on That Sunday Night Show.
Journalism students at Staffordshire University take part in newsdays, where they mirror the workings of a real multimedia newsroom. The pair were out filming in Hanley, finding out what local people thought of the policy. They published the clip via YouTube to StaffsLive, the university’s successful news website, with content provided by journalism students. Later that week, the clip was shown on the popular chat show, hosted by household name Adrian Chiles, who was also discussing the Big Society with his guests. James described the lady as a “legend.”
“We always hope that we will find someone who will give us a comment like that but it is rare, so I am glad that the producers of That Sunday Night Show enjoyed the clip enough to use it!”. Head of Journalism Sarah Rowlands said: “It’s a terrific thrill for students to see their work on network television.”
