A world-famous photo agency has invited two courses at Staffordshire University to join their foundation’s prestigous partnership.

BA(Hons) Photography and BA(Hons) Photojournalism are now recognised by Magnum Photos' Educational Partnership, which is the agency’s focus on helping future generations of photographers by sharing with them the knowledge and experience of their members.

Benefits for students include professional practice lectures from Magnum photographers, visits to their Print Room gallery and use of its specialist book library, as well as priority on all internship vacancies at Magnum London. Tutors are also given extended web account profiles with access to a wealth of physical and digital resources.

David Noble, Award Leader for BA(Hons) Photography, is delighted with the partnership: “This is a huge honour, prestige and recognition for both courses and Staffordshire University – one that we have accepted with gratitude. The selection process is rigorous and we are one of only 10 institutions in the UK to receive the invitation.”

Magnum’s current members include many of the industry’s finest photographers such as Martin Parr, Susan Meiselas and Trent Parke. With offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo, the agency provides photos for publishers, galleries, museums, media and advertising around the world.

“Magnum Photos and the photography courses at Staffordshire University have been engaged in a positive relationship since 2008, with several Magnum photographers – including David Hurn and Olivia Arthur – having lectured there over the last few years,” explained Fiona Rogers, Magnum London’s Cultural & Education Co-ordinator. “It was a natural progression for us to invite Staffordshire’s BA(Hons) Photography and BA(Hons) Photojournalism courses to partner with the Magnum Photos Foundation.”

Two of Magnum’s founding members have been awarded Honorary Doctorates by Staffordshire University – George Rodger in 1995 and Eve Arnold in 1997.
