New York City experience for Drama students

Drama, Performance and Theatre Arts students enjoyed an inspiring trip to New York over Easter.
They travelled to the Big Apple with lecturers Rob Marsden, Shelley Piasecka and Chris Martin for a week of Broadway shows, acting workshops, improvisational theatre and sightseeing in the world’s most famous city.
Level 3 students studying iconic performance artist Marina Abramović as part of their Live Art module visited the Museum of Modern Arts to watch her perform a durational piece and experience her stunning work first hand.
Students went to see the musical ‘Avenue Q’, visual extravaganza ‘Fuerza Bruta: Look Up’ at the Daryl Roth Theatre and David Mamet’s much-acclaimed new play ‘RACE’ on Broadway.
Lecturer Rob Marsden was impressed with the shows: “‘Avenue Q’ has returned to its off-Broadway roots, ‘Fuerza Bruta’ was a collision of beautiful imagery and aerial work with students getting very wet, while ‘RACE’ was simply breathtaking – fantastic acting with some powerhouses of performances with roots in the America Method.”
There was also time for a masterclass from actor Ed Lane and late night improvisation at the Magnet Theatre alongside established American performers, as well as visits to Staten Island by ferry, Central Park, the site of the World Trade Centre and Brooklyn Bridge.
“We all had a brilliant time and thankfully we were not disrupted by the volcanic ash,” added Rob. “The annual New York trip at Easter is an optional part of the course and one which students thoroughly enjoy.”
