Community works to build a better environment

Staffordshire University and the local community come together to make ‘Quality Streets’
A team of staff and students within the Creative Communities Unit have been working hard to improve areas of Stoke-on-Trent.
The group have been running alongside people in the community to find out what people like and dislike in the area surrounding Hanley Park, with open meetings held for the public to air their views.
Together they will put together an action plan for change in the area, with local people receiving training so that they can get involved and join the team.
The project has been ongoing since last Summer; and it’s aim is to address resident’s issues such as community relationships, traffic, and environmental and safety issues such as the alley gates in the area.
Things are already beginning to change as part of the research, with a local community website set up to keep people up to date on nearby events and important information.
The project is encouraging people to get involved, so if you want to have your say, or think you have ways to improve the area surrounding Hanley Park, contact Penny Vincent on 01782 294540, or p.e.vincent@staffs.ac.uk.
