Staffslive

Journalism students are making the news after a number of second and third years were appointed as Editors of StaffsLive.
It is the first time the university-based news website, which covers stories in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire, has offered editorial roles to students.
Online Journalism Lecturer Ross Hawkes credits the continued success of StaffsLive to the quality of work students are producing.
“It was because of the audience the students were attracting that we decided StaffsLive needed to move to the next level and operate outside of news days,” explained Ross.
“Student editors are now responsible for day-to-day management of the site and the flow of content, but they have already excelled themselves by expanding the reach of StaffsLive through social networking sites.
“We are obviously delighted with how well it has gone so far – and we are particularly pleased to see that people from outside Staffordshire University are reading, commenting and enjoying the site.”
Third year Broadcast Journalism student Andrew Stuart has taken the helm as News Editor, with James Bell and Adam Walker appointed Assistant News Editors. Positions were also given to Steve Garland (Sports Editor), Joe Cuffaro (Assistant Sports Editor), Laurence Mozafari (Entertainment Editor), Holly Ranford (Assistant Entertainment Editor) and Chris Heath (Interactive Editor).
“It is an honour to be News Editor of StaffsLive and be part of a fantastic team who want to help take the website forward,” said Andrew.
“Ben Lowe’s video footage of the English Defence League demonstration in Hanley had over 25,000 views in less than a week on StaffsLive’s YouTube channel, while we get lots of hits from our regular interviews with Stoke City and Port Vale footballers.
“As for entertainment, our backstage interview with X Factor stars Jedward the day after the final was an exclusive for StaffsLive and is one of our most viewed articles to date.
“We have a great team of students working on StaffsLive, so I can only see good things for the site’s future.”
