Introduction
The practical work of the Drama, Performance and Theatre Arts takes place in The Performance Centre and in the adjoining Studio One building.
What facilities are available?
Studio One is a 70 seat adaptable performance and teaching space with professional stage-management, communications and lighting and sound facilities. It has a full internally-wired overhead lighting grid. The studio has a sprung floor and can be configured in a traditional proscenium-like arrangement, as a theatre-in-the-round, as a traverse theatre and in a thrust or end-stage arrangement. There is a foyer area, a separate stage-door entrance, dressing-rooms and technical workshop / storage rooms.
The Performance Centre contains;-
- Studio Two is a 30 seat adaptable performance space with professional lighting, Sound and communications systems. It has a sprung floor and an internally-wired overhead lighting grid. This smaller studio can be arranged in an end-stage or theatre-in-the-round configuration.
- Studios Three and Four are rehearsal rooms with sprung floors, overhead lighting facilities and power supplies for stage lighting. Both spaces can be used for public performances.
- Foyer area with public toilets.
- Green-room with a kitchen, dining tables and lounge area.
- Production-meeting / seminar room with a DVD/ VCR and TV monitor.
- Construction and painting workshop with dust extract systems and spray cupboards and a range of carpentry and metalworking tools and painting facilities.
- Costume-making workshop with a cutting table, mirrors, sewing machines and a fitting / dressing room.
- Furniture and timber stores.
- Costume and props stores.
- Computer room containing lighting and sound design software.
Also -
- Studio Five is an additional offsite rehearsal room with its own kitchen area and toilet facilities (Not suitable for public performances, due to public-access restrictions.)
