Media Centre

Introduction
The Media Centre has three main areas, which are housed across three buildings on the College Road Campus. In the main Production and Post Production area we have a wide range of portable equipment, filming and recording facilities and post production to allow you to create film and sound projects to a high quality. In Animation we have facilities to produce a range of animated products including Stop Motion, Motion Capture, Chroma keying, Line testing as well as the latest animation software to produce cutting edge animated graphics. In the Broadcast Newsroom we have a state of the art TV news set for producing news bulletins as well as editing and newsgathering facilities alongside the Radio studios. Our print newsroom provides a real newspaper environment to generate and create news content.
What facilities are available?
Production & Post Production
This area contains facilities integral to the filming and post-production of student work and is maintained by the Media Centre staff. Our production and post-production suites are in keeping with the industry’s developments and advancements and are constantly being upgraded to conform to these standards.
Post-Production
Our Post-Production area houses 40 fully equipped Final Cut Pro edit suites. These suites are capable of editing both audio and video footage to a high degree with students receiving specialist training from our Apple accredited staff. All post production suites contain the following software: - Pro Tools, Final Cut Pro Studio 3 (which includes Final Cut Pro 7, Soundtrack Pro 2, DVD Studio 4, Motion 4, Color and Compressor 3 all with Quicktime Pro), Adobe CS5.5 Design Suite (including Photoshop Extended, Flash and Video Encoder, Dreamweaver, Image Ready and Design), Microsoft Office for Mac (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), iMovie, iDVD and Visual Hub.
Shoot Studio
Our shoot studio is capable of facilitating medium-scale set builds and lighting set-ups for student productions. This area is also used for teaching and exhibiting work with a fully equipped data projector for high-resolution displays.
Sound Studios
Our sound studios consists of a control room and soundproofed voice over booth, using a talkback system to communicate between the two. Our control rooms are equipped with specialist Digidesign audio hardware consisting of mixing decks and recording software for voice and music recording.
Equipment Stores
Our stores cater for a range of courses across the Arts, Media and Design Faculty with particular focus on video and audio production. We work closely with Media (Film) Production, Film, Television & Radio Studies, a range of Journalism courses, Animation courses and Fine Art. Our equipment is kept up-to-date in accordance with industry standards and developments and our specially trained staff deliver thorough craft sessions on the use of all equipment. Our stores use the same work principles as an external kit hire facility, encouraging students to use forward planning to book kit and take personal responsibility for the property. This way, we hope to instil a responsible working ethic that will follow students into the employment domain.

Video Cameras – Sony EX3, Sony NX5, Sony NX70, JVC HD100/110, SONY HVR-V1 and A1E, Kodak ZX3.
Digital SLR Cameras - Nikon D90, D40 and D50.
Lighting – LED Light, 75w Battery Powered Light, 300w Sachtler Lighting Kit, 800w Arri Lighting Kit, 2000w Arri Lighting Kit and Super lighting Kit inc 300w, 2 x 650w and 800w. We also have a wide selection of softboxes, reflectors and dimmers.
Monitors - JVC TM1011, TM600 and Teletest OZL 1702.
Audio - Marantz PMD661 and PMD660, Flash Mics and a range of Sennheiser and Audio Technica Mics – inc rifle, handheld, radio and lapel.
Specialist Equipment – Glidecams, Jib arms, Track and Dolly kits.
We have dedicated stores staff who vigilantly check and maintain our equipment to a high standard.
Staff
We have a highly dedicated team who technically support all departments of the Media Centre. All of our front line technical staff have been trained in Apples Final Cut Pro series, along with many other software applications. All our technical staff are media graduates and many still undertake their own media work.
