Surface Decoration Workshops

Introduction

In these workshops you will be able to apply surface decoration to a variety of surfaces including fabric, wood, metal, plastics and paper with access to the sewing machines, heat transfer machine, rug making and various dying techniques. We also operate a voucher system which can be exchanged for fabric and other materials (These are purchased from the Art and Design shop).

What facilities are available?

Processes and equipment Exposure room
This room is used for a multitude of processes including monoprinting, various dying techniques and exposure of screens. It also houses our fume cupboard for mixing of dyes.

Rug Room
This room is dedicated to rug making and shaving of rugs.

Print workshop
Within this area there is provision for pigment based screen printing both on to fabric and hard surfaces. There is also other equipment connected with other printing processes such as discharge and devoré. Equipment includes hot plates, steamer, dying machine and washer/dryer machine. There is also a heat transfer machine for transfer of pigments and fixing reactive dyes. Also the magic touch heat press is operated in this room which can be used to apply colour copies of images to various surfaces including fabric and hard surfaces. Screen drying area This area is used for washing and drying screens and also storing them.

Sewing room
The sewing room is used for machine embroidery and other stitching techniques. The room also contains an embellishing machine for felting techniques.
