About the Faculty

The world is powered by a blend of Engineering, Computing and Technology. The Faculty is a leading centre for innovation and practical scholarship. We offer modern programmes of study, enterprise partnerships with industry and an active research programme. Our courses excite, engage and empower our students. Visitors are impressed by the dedication and imagination of the teaching staff and by the energy and enthusiasm of the students.
Our studios, laboratories and technology centres are equipped with state-of-the-art software and hardware, which reflect the latest developments needed to support our students. We are continually expanding our resource base, often in partnership with industry sponsors, from engineering through to computer games. We also work to facilitate equality of access to our courses and our facilities.
“The learning process adopted is one of constant self-exploration and experimentation. This distinct characteristic has acted as a catalyst towards the emergence of dynamic ideas amongst students and has made learning both enriching and refreshing.”

The focus of the Faculty’s teaching is practical study, underpinned by the application of leading edge academic knowledge to produce the graduates that employers want. Also our close contact with business and industry feeds back into our courses and gives a practical foundation and application to our research. All our awards are designed to help our graduates enter employment, with a huge proportion of our graduates entering a career within six months.
“SU develops talents that think outside the box and nurtures skills that are transferable across all industries. I believe I stand as a testament towards an education system that works - trained as a Software Developer, I now work in Finance, in the Commercial Banking Division of a large multinational bank."
The Faculty has been described as having ‘Vitality with amazing and astonishing facilities’.
