Matt Dixson and Wayne Simper are one in a hundred for Network Rail

This year one third of the graduate positions in Information Management at Network Rail were filled by graduates from FCET.  Two such graduates were Matt Dixson BSc (Hons) Network Computing and Wayne Simper BSc (Hons) Computer Science who in 2007 successfully applied for a placement with Network Rail.  The placement gave both of them opportunities to develop their skills  and gave them the ideas for their Final Year Projects.  Network Rail liked the two of them so much that they were offered places on the graduate scheme at the end of their placements once they had completed their studies here.  To put their achievement in perspective there were 17,000 applications last year and 150 were successful.  Students seriously benefit from a placement gaining experience, ideas, funds and, in around half the cases, a job offer or incentive - to quote Wayne "A placement really sorts you out".

Their manager, Helen Ford, is very interested in recruiting equally talented faculty graduates and placement students and came here with Wayne to speak to students in the Ruxton Lecture Theatre and explain the application process which starts with an online application followed by an online test.  Helen hopes to run workshops at the faculty to help prepare students who successfully negotiate the first stages for the later parts. Wayne also recommends that you speak to careers who prepared him very well for his inteview. Network Rail want the best of the best and that could be you!

Applications close on 20th December more information plus application process can be found here
