Prize Winning Product presented by FCET Graduate to BCS North Staffs

Stoke-on-Trent based Data Driven Logistics have been named as a BCS Industry Awards Finalist for their product Canditv®. Canditv® is already the winner of the Sentinel Business Awards Innovation category and has now been selected as a Finalist for the Project Excellence Award – Flagship for Innovation category and will now be considered from a short list of national finalists including the likes of Virgin Atlantic.

Data Driven’s Canditv® is a breakthrough technology that enables people with ordinary mobile telephones to use them just like TV remotes to take control and navigate content displayed on public facing screens when out of the home. Now in use at the Bridgefoot Shakespeare Country Tourist Information Centre in Stratford Upon Avon and is considered to be the first of its kind in the world. Tourism Chief Executive Phil Hackett stated: “We’re delighted to be able to offer this out of hour’s service at the Stratford TIC which will be the first of many to benefit from this fantastic service. The system captures information about the visitor’s interest in the area on a real time basis and provides yet another opportunity for visitors to find out what they need and want at any time of the day or night.”

DDL Business Development Director Kevin Taylor, who graduated from the Faculty with first class honours in 1999 having studied Applied Computing part-time whilst working full-time, is to talk to the North Staffs Branch of the BCS about Canditv®. David Clarke, British Computer Society chief executive stated “In the current economic situation it is rewarding to see that IT is continuing to lead through innovation and deliver real business benefits.” North Staffs Branch Chairman Ian Sunley says "This is a really exciting area of development. As a finalist in the BCS IT Industry Awards, finalist for the Advantage West Midlands Best Innovative product of the year awards and winner of the 2007 ICT awards with BCS and AWM yet to judge the winners we may well be seeing a best of British IT project."

Kevin Griffiths, Managing Director for Data Driven Logistics commented: “We are extremely pleased to have been selected for the BCS Industry Award Finals and are excited about the future opportunities for Canditv® .
