BCS Meeting 13th March Short Papers Evening

The March Meeting BCS North Staffs is:
A Short Papers Evening with Papers on Tuesday 13th March
On Tuesday evening 6 final year students presented at a short papers competition held by the North Staffordshire branch of the BCS, The Chartered institute for IT. The presentations, which consisted of a 10 minute presentation and 5 minutes of questions, were given to 3 independent judges from industry who are members of the BCS.
They were Peter Bassill, Managing Director Hedgehog Security Systems, Peter Grant, Senior Project Manager Oracle EMEA Sales & Consultancy and Kevin Taylor, Managing Director ACS Telford.
The students were
1. Thomas McElroy Android Forensics done properly. Development of two tools to aid collection and analysis of data from an Android device.
2. Sebastian Serber Network Management Tool with Green Networking. Track and monitor network components for energy efficiency
3. Raj Shekhar Nerella Staffs University Mobile Tools for Students (SUMTS). Multiple platform web portal to run on smart phones
4. Joanne Longman Authentication Breach Investigation Methodology. Assessing failures within biometric security systems.
5. Anna Ljungberg Artificial Intelligence Decision making agent for computer poker.
6. Charleen Pottinger Authentication Of a Centralised Database System using Knowledge Management techniques.
The winner was Thomas McElroy who was praised for his innovative ideas. The judges praised all the students for their efforts and one commented that the quality of the presentations was for better the many of his permanent staff who presented regularly. All three judges have agreed to attend GRADEX 2012.
