International PhD Researchers Gather at Stafford

The Service Science and Innovation Doctoral Colloquium took place at FCET 22nd and 23rd March 2010 and was convened by Prof Lorna Uden (Staffordshire).  The Dean of Faculty, Professor Mike Goodwin, opened the event and welcomed the participants.  The event was sponsored by SSMENetUK (Service Science Management and Engineering network) and Staffordshire University and supported by the Faculty's Centre for Information, Intelligence and Security Systems ARC (CIISS), Prof Uden chaired the event.

The Doctoral Colloquium is designed to provide doctoral researchers in Services Science and Innovation (SSI) with the opportunity to present and discuss their research with a multi disciplinary panel of distinguished scholars and practitioners working in their field.  The Colloquium provides  an opportunity to interact with colleagues from other institutions working in SSI, and strengthens the services science community.

There were participants from many different countries stretching from Finland to Malaysia, as well as universities in the UK including Cambridge, Manchester, Glasgow and Staffordshire with topics that varied from specific aspects of the engineering industries in Finland, Germany and Italy to banking in Saudi Arabia via ground based forces in the MOD, supply chains, education and disability services.  The speakers (PDF, file size: 23.95KB)  gained valuable feedback from the panel regarding their study, as well as forming links towards building research related networks with other students from across the world.  Doctoral Panel was comprised of Prof Robbie Patton, University of Glasgow, Professor Linda Macaulay, Manchester University, Dr Harry Maddern, Exeter University, Dr Jennifer M. Wilby, Hull University and Steve Street, IBM.
