Knowledge Creation and Transfer
In CIISS, we believe in developing strong, sustainable business partnerships. We aim to help enterprises:
gain business advantage in the increasingly competitive technology landscape, and increase profits by leveraging the spectrum of digital technologies and enterprise or business information systems.
make cost effective use of their knowledge resources - whether data, people or business processes.
We work with enterprises in the private and public sector to create state-of-the-art intelligent computing solutions that can be integrated into superior in-house business information systems or into innovative commercial products. We develop intelligent and secure techniques or systems to help enterprises grow and become more efficient. We enable enterprises to make profitable use of the increasing amounts of data generated through their business systems or through their array of new data gathering technology, and to derive maximum benefit from the large amount of valuable knowledge held by individuals and teams in their organisation. Most importantly, we can transfer our wealth of knowledge to organisations to enable them to improve their performance or profit margins.
Assistance Programmes
CIISS has access to a range of programmes for assisting companies in the development and adoption of digital technologies and information or knowledge management. These include Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, Innovation Vouchers, consultancy services, contract research and work based learning and training.
For example, CIISS provides an extensive range of consultancy services in forensic computing through its 'Security and Forensic Enterprise' team, to meet the expanding demand for investigation of both stored and transient data. We can secure and investigate a plethora of devices, from PCs, mobile phones, game consoles, SatNavs, Sky+ boxes and other storage media in a manner which preserves the original digital evidence, including deleted information, before formally reporting the findings for use in a court of law. The types of cases that we can be involved in range from fraud, paedophilia, terrorism, unauthorised ‘hacking’ through to simple misuse of a work PC. We can uncover Web history, e-mails, photos, videos, hidden or deleted files ... almost anything actually!
Another example of consultancy services offered by CIISS is the business analytics work of the ‘Centre for Intelligent Data Analysis’. We can develop solutions to match your business intelligence or data mining requirements, to uncover valuable business information (such as market trends, cases of failure to comply with legal requirements, causes of product faults, ...) hidden in your masses of data which may be unstructured.
Partnerships and Awards
Our current and previous partners or clients include: MDTi Ltd, Britvic Soft Drinks Ltd, Cable Detection Ltd, Branscan Ltd, ALSTOM Ltd, Environment Agency, Severn Trent Water, NHS, Staffordshire Police, ...
Our work with public and private sector organisations has won numerous awards. For example, our advanced digital signal processing work, completed under a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Cable Detection Ltd, was ranked among the top three for ‘The Engineer’ Technology & Innovation Awards in the ‘Civil Engineering’ category, alongside systems from BAE Systems and Aston University, and from Tarmac and the University of Nottingham. Similarly, our work with MDTi Ltd was finalist in the ‘AWM ICT Excellence Awards’. Furthermore, our ‘River Pollution Diagnostic System’, developed in close partnership with environmental agencies and water companies, was finalist in the ‘Social Contribution’ category of the British Computer Society (BCS) Technology Awards. It was runner-up to the London Congestion Charging Scheme, developed by Capita Group plc.
