Engineering Research Group

The aim of this research group is to develop and promote novel, interdisciplinary ideas in applied engineering. It hosts 21 academic staff and 7 technicians. As a group we concentrate our efforts on three specific themes: Applied Engineering Design (AED); Electronic Devices and Materials (EDM); Medical Engineering (ME)
Applied Engineering Design (AED)
The aim of this research theme is to develop new technologies associated with Sustainable Design and Renewable/Sustainable Energy. Recent projects include: developing novel machining technolgies for Liverpool Museum to support statue renovation; and developing a fully functional power generating plany using biomass fuels in association with Talbott Heat and Power.

Electronic Devices and Materials (EDM)
The aim of this research theme is to develop novel technolgies associated with Power Systems and Electronic Materials. Recent projects include: the development of domestic energy saving devices in association with SAVAWATT; and the Midlands' Electronics Design Centre (set up by BERR).

Medical Engineering (ME)
The aim of this theme is to develop new technologies to support the growing global healthcare demand. Recent projects include: the development of STORM(R) in association with Intelligent Orthopaedics Ltd; and the development of Reddylite(R) in association with GVR Products Ltd.
