CE00454-M ADVANCED DESIGN STRATEGIES
This module takes the basic design strategies learned at undergraduate level and turns them around so that the student becomes customer oriented in a global product development environment. Through the review and implementation of modern strategies the student will be able to reflect on the insular, serial design methodologies of the past and implement modern techniques to enhance quality, customer focus and time to market.
Through the use of industrially related case studies students will develop advanced implementation skills within the context of product development within a global market. In particular students will address
- professional specification production
- quality strategies (QFD, house of quality, PMS, vigilance, experiment design)
- the role of integration in product development
- management strategies (six sigma, lean)
Significant attention will be given to the influence of advanced materials and material selection on product development
