Automotive Awards

Track marshal training

Automotive engineering is going through a period of technology driven rapid change leading to more economical and environmentally friendly engines which in turn drives change in vehicle design. Our automotive awards are based on strong partnerships with industry, enviable relationships with leading race teams and 40 years experience in engineering.  This award is accredited by IMECHE

Students gain from:

  • Real life experience
  • Practical and theorectical sessions
  • Curriculum design supported by industry
  • Commercial race team experience
  • Work placement opportunities of the highest calibre

Automotive Electronics

Automotive Electronics

Modern cars have complex data and control systems with up to four kilometres of wiring and many megabytes of computing power.  This course combines computing, electronic and automotive engineering.  Students investigate vehicle systems design and analysis which is expanded upon though practical modules in the lab, workshop and workplace.

Automotive Engineering

Automotive Engineering

This award concentrates on mechanical engineering areas such as vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics and engine design.  Graduates gain an engineering degree with a strong automotive industry focused content.

Also available as a part-time day-release study route at with attendance at the University for approximately 27 days each academic year (one day each week for 24 weeks + assessment). The normal length of study is 4 years for part-timers who have an HNC in Engineering.

This award is accredited by IMECHE

Automotive Technology

Automotive Technology

Graduates from this course should have a detailed understanding of automotive technology and be able to apply this knowledge in an industrial context.  Students use industry standard software to model, simulate and test a new design before commiting resources.  This award is accredited by IMECHE

Motorsport Technology Awards

Successful, competitive racing in the motorsport industry needs the support of high calibre engineers and technicians.  These awards have been developed in conjunction with our partner companies in the industry.  Students on the foundation degree start their studies in the university but will spend half their study time with one of these companies building on the skills gained at the university.

Students on the honours degree gain hands on experience of real cars too but also spend a significant amount of time modelling and simulation different designs which can be tested in a virtual environment.
