Automotive, Engineering, Maths and Technology

Applied Technology and Engineering courses develop your flair for functional solutions in all aspects of our technology driven lives. Engineers and technologists literally make things happen. Our mechanical engineering courses were recently ranked twenty first in the UK in the Guardian Guide. Our engineering research ranked well in the recent national Research Assessment Exercise which found that 90% of our research in Engineering is of international standards (45% international excellence, 40% recognised internationally and 5% world leading), 10% is of national standards and this work is continued in Staffordshire Centre for Energy Efficient Systems and the Mobile Fusion Centre (robotics and mobile devices)
We have a number of specialised applied technology and engineering courses. In motorsport and automotive engineering and technology our courses range from foundation degree to post graduate and are all fully integrated with industrial partners. Graduates from our electronics and electrical engineering degrees are sought after by both local and national employers. Engineering seeks to harness and use energy resources in a responsible manner and improve our world and the faculty's commitment to this is demonstrated by the prestigious ARBOR project. This EU funded project aims to promote an innovative and sustainable approach across North West Europe to developing energy from biomass. The project will help the countries concerned in achieving the EU 20-20-20 targets. It involves organisations from UK, Ireland, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands and Belgium, together with observers from France and Switzerland. There are two
investments awarded through the project, the University will set up the European Centre of Excellence in Biomass while Stoke on Trent City authority has a 50% matched fund to commission a biomass Pyrolisis plant for a chosen residential complex in the city.
To solve problems you need to identify that they exist and that they are significant using mathematics and statistics which also underpin all other forms of analysis. The Faculty delivers an honours degree in Maths and Stats and a PGCE in Maths for graduates who wish to teach maths.
Automotive Awards

Our automotive awards are based on strong partnerships with industry, enviable relationships with leading race teams and 40 years experience in engineering. Read more about Automotive Awards »
Design and Technology

Design and technology underpin all products whether good or bad. Design must be fit for purpose or the technology however brilliant won't work or be wanted. Read more about Design and Technology »
Mechanical, Mechatronics and Maths

Mechanical, Mechatronics and Maths courses have many applications in industry, design and development. FCET has considerable research expertise in robotics, mobile devices and human adaptive mechatronics. Read more about Mechanical, Mechatronics and Maths »
Electronic and Electrical Engineering

Electronic Engineering underpins our world - just think of all the things that you can't do during a powercut or without batteries. Read more about Electronic and Electrical Engineering »
