Applied Information Technology (Stoke)

BSc(Hons) Applied Computing (Stoke)

 

Applied computing develops skills for practical computing issues in the workplace,  producing computing solutions for real world problems.   Applied computing ranges from educational and business software through data analysis and web development to mobile applications. 

The award can be studied part-time or through distance learning and is suitable for students who wish to combine a full-time job with study.

BSc(Hons) Applied Multimedia Systems (Stoke)

 

Applied Multimedia Systems covers the design and development of multimedia systems integrating many forms of media. With the increasing power of information technology and the increasing demands of users for appealing and interactive accessible applications, the person able to produce appropriate multimedia systems will be much in demand.

Applied Multimedia HND (Stoke)

 

Applied Multimedia HND 

Multimedia is a broad field intersecting the arts, entertainment technology and computing. This award allows you to become skilled in all aspects of the development of multimedia applications for both CD and the web.

BSc(Hons) Applied Information Technology (Stoke)

 

Applied Information Technology gives you a wide range of knowledge in the application of information technology (IT). You will learn the advantages and disadvantages of applying IT in business and social applications and develop suitable IT solutions to real-world problems.

This subject can be studied at HND, degree, degree top-up and fast track degree top-up.

Applied Internet Commerce

 

Electronic commerce is playing an increasing role in enabling business-to-business commerce, through dedicated electronic data interchange (EDI) and by exploiting the commercial potential of the Internet.  The Applied Internet Commerce honours degree will give you a sound knowledge of how EDI and Internet trading works and how such systems can be designed for and fitted into modern business and e-government.  You can also undertake the top-up award if you have an appropriate HND.

Applied Network Management

 

The increasing complexity of computer networks needs expertise not just in the technical aspects but also in the planning, monitoring and deployment stages. Applied Network Management teaches the analysis, design and development of systems, website publishing and hardware and network elements.  You will develop your knowledge of networks including both technical aspects and the management of network environments and learn how to apply that knowlege.

Business Computing

 

Business Computing will provide you with the skills to use computer-based systems, to solve business problems and support business processes. You will also gain a sound knowledge of business areas such as finance, law and business resource management and learn how to design and use some of the latest computer-based business systems.

Business Information Technology

 

Business Information Technology will equip you for a career in virtually any sphere of business or industry that has a need for the efficient and appropriate use of IT in a business context. Recent graduates have gained employment in large organisations, both in management and in IT, become website developers, network administrators or even set up their own businesses.  You can also top-up an appropriate HND to degree with this award.

Database Administration and Management

 

This course is not recruiting for academic year 2010-11

Database Administration and Management will provide you with an understanding of the complexities of database environments.
All organisations use databases and most internal databases are mission critical in that any problems have the potential to bring the business to a standstill. Anyone who has the skills and knowledge to prevent this and/or cure the problem will be a very valuable asset.  Top-up available with an appropriate HND.

Database Technology (Stoke)

 

Database systems are the engines of companies from mobile telecoms to e-commerce like Amazon storing everything from music to film clips.  Effective design and implementation is crucial to business success and competitive advantage.  As well as gaining many of the key skills required for the IT industry graduates of Database Technology have the opportunity to gain Oracle certification.

 

Information Technology Studies

 

A flexible, fast track route to a degree using previous pre-degree study allowing you to take full advantage of your previously accumulated credits and then agree, by negotiation, a personal course of IT studies that will lead to the award of BSc(Hons) Information Technology Studies.

Geoinformatics

 

This course is not recruiting for academic year 2010-11

Geoinformatics encompasses the creation, management and analysis of spatial data.  It includes the study of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS).  Governments, councils, commercial companies and many other organisations use it as part of their planning, marketing and decision-making processes.

For example, geoinformatic data is used in retail to decide where new supermarkets are required, what products will be popular with the local community and how the development will impact the environment.

Bioinformatics

 

This course is not recruiting for academic year 2010-11

The growth in the area of Bioinformatics was fuelled initially by the Human Genome Project
and the resulting data analysis requirements.  This course focuses on computational and statistical
techniques used for quantitative analysis of biological data.  The course will provide students
with a knowledge of the key areas encompassed within bioinformatics and the associated
mathematical and IT skills required to work effectively in this area.

Technology for Teaching and Learning

 

Technology for Teaching and Learning will equip you for a career in virtually any learning environment, developing and maintaining systems that facilitate learning. You may choose to develop your educational skills by studying a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and take up a post in teaching.

User Support Systems

 

Proper, prompt user support is vital to customer satisfaction and thus retaining or repeating contracts   User Support Systems will provide you with an understanding of Information Technology (IT) based systems that aim to improve the service given to users and customers when they seek help. Typically these might be computer supported help desks, call centre systems for example.
