Networking and CISCO
Network Computing
Global business and everyday life are now linked through the internet and information technology changing the way we work, communicate and interact. From individuals using devices to watch television through the Internet via wireless networks to the operation of multinationals, there is an ever-increasing need for consumers and commercial organisations to have timely access to information, requiring data to be exchanged through an integration of information and communications technologies. The world wide web cannot exist without the supporting infrastructure of hardware network components and systems software. Network Computing seeks to develop your specialisation in the enabling technologies that underpin the Internet, Intranets and other computer-based information networks.
Network Engineering
Information and communications technology continues to revolutionise every aspect of both global business and everyday life. Global Internets cannot exist without the supporting infrastructure of hardware network components that underpin them. Building, maintaining, testing and enhancing communications networks is crucial to the operation of the web and to the success of businesses. Professionals with strong expertise in networking systems are essential to any medium to
large-scale enterprise. Network Engineering seeks to develop your specialisation in the enabling technologies and electronics design that underpin the Internet, Intranets and other computer-based information and communication networks.
Also available as a part-time day-release study route with attendance at the University for approximately 27 days each academic year (one day each week for 24 weeks + assessment). The normal length of study is 4 years for part-timers who have an HNC in Engineering.
Computer Networks and Security
Networks are vital to any modern organisation. Computer systems process and communicate a wide variety of data over networks. In turn, the safety and viability of commercial systems are continually under threat from malicious attacks or even inadvertent damage, which can undermine public confidence and fuel criminal activity. The component of a computer system that is most commonly exploited to breach the security of commercial systems is the computer network. Computer Networks and Security provides you with detailed technical knowledge and skills in both computer networks and computer security and should enable you to pursue a career in the areas of computer networking, computer security or network security.

Electronic and Broadcast Engineering
Electronic and Broadcast Engineering
This award brings together our strengths in engineering, broadcast technology and computing. Students gain CISCO skills and qualifications while using our Digital Broadcast TV studio. They learn broadcasting technology including streaming and gain transferable core competencies in Electronics, Telecommunications, Signal Processing and Computer Networking with a special focus on Audio and Video Production and Broadcast Systems.
Media delivery has expanded from satellite, cable and terrestrial to include mobile devices (mobile phones, pocket computers and PDA) and the Internet. In addition to radio and televising broadcasters, educational institutes and enterprises are building broadcast enabled studios to produce and deliver audio visual material for e-learning, employee training, corporate communications and
commercial services.
We produce graduates that are qualified professional engineers capable of analysing, specifying, designing, commissioning, maintaining and managing complex multimedia broadcasting solutions.
Applied Network Management (Stoke)
The increasing complexity of computer networks needs expertise not just in the technical aspects but also in the planning, monitoring and deployment stages. Applied Network Management teaches the analysis, design and development of systems, website publishing and hardware and network elements. You will develop your knowledge of networks including both technical aspects and the management of network environments and learn how to apply that knowledge.
Database Technology (Stoke)
Database systems are the engines of companies from mobile telecoms to e-commerce like Amazon storing everything from music to film clips. Effective design and implementation is crucial to business success and competitive advantage. As well as gaining many of the key skills required for the IT industry graduates of Database Technology have the opportunity to gain Oracle certification.
