Stafford Campus

Before you come on an open day have a quick look around our town, campus and facilities
Stafford market town has many historic buildings including twelth century St Chad's, the High House and the seventeenth century Bear Inn.
Stafford has a number of outdoor events held in the market square outside the Shire Hall Gallery now main libray and art gallery but previously the jail and courthouse.
Our facilities are industry standard wherever possible, for example our Film Technology TV studio, and our courses are hands on from the beginning. We have strong links with industry which are partly maintained by our graduates who, having gained employment through our awards, continue to inform the development of those awards.
The Beaconside Campus was an RAF base during the second world war but is now very much a 21st Century place of study.
Our Computing courses are bang up todate but with a long pedigree as we were one of the very first places in the UK to deliver degrees in computing and our resources for the courses reflect this, see Computing facilities in use plus further information. Many companies regularly recruit our computing student for placements or upon graduation and our graduates are often emplyed by former faculty students - this applies to all areas not just computing as a read though our news pages will show you!
All our courses are underpinned by computing, engineering and technology and there are a number of creative synergies across the faculty for example Forensic Computing students have used the Music Technology studios to assess voice recognition and the Games Motion Capture studio to examine walking rhythms.

Engineering and Applied Technology awards are an expanding area of study in this faculty with strong links to industry which support our foundation degrees in particular such as motorsport but also study through to postgraduate and research - engineering scored particularly well in the recent research assessment excecise. This area also includes aeronautics, electrical, electronics, maths, mechatronics and robotics - a recent robotics graduate is now working on the Mars Rover.

The Film Production Technology division has two fully equipped studios - the Digital TV studio with Vision, Audio and Lighting Galleries and the Digital SDI Green Screen Studio with Control Gallery and Film Finishing studio. Note our motorsport students have been able to display a number of cars at once in our TV studio - these are industry standard and sized premises. We also have two fully equipped Labs and a resource store with equipment which students can borrow to use on location. Film Technology facilities in use. You can undertake awards in Games Design and Programming (PDF, file size: 2.35MB) at undergraduate and postgraduate level here - Games resources in use. The development of these awards is driven by our close links with the industry - recent graduate Ed Catchpole's placement leads to full-time job. More information on resources.

Stoke Campus

Stoke-on-Trent is a busy commercial centre with a long industrial heritage. While the area is best known for ceramic production there an equally established history of coal mining and steel production.
Part-time and applied computing courses are based at the Stoke Campus - computing facilities in use. The Stoke Campus is currently being transformed under the UniQ project - a £282 million pound transformation which will link the University, Stoke-on-Trent FE College and the Sixth Form college with shared state-of-the-art facilities and increased access to resources. The campus currently has a vibrant students union, shops and a number of food outlets plus much, much more just off campus.
