Where our students go


Louise Gill, BSc (Hons) Forensic Computing, "I was offered a job after an interview on completing my placement year - it was a huge relief to have a job offer actually in place for when I finished the degree provided I got the results, and now I am due to start there later this year after a summer placement at CERN in Switzerland. Louise will be working as a software engineer in the civil service.
Gareth Williams, also a 2009 Forensic Computing graduate, is now working as a Data Centre engineer in Watford. Forensic computing students are very popular both for placements and for full time employment - often by the same companies.
Ed Catchpole BSc (Hons) Computer Games Programming is working at Blitz Games Studios in Leamington Spa where he completed his year’s placement.
“University was fantastic – everything I expected and a whole lot more.” said Ed, 21, from Birmingham. “The computer department has a fantastic reputation and it was the exact course I wanted.”

During his placement, Ed was put to work on the eagerly awaited action shooter game Dead to Rights which is due for release in the Autumn and is expected to be as big in gaming circles as Halo and Call of Duty.
Ed added: “Blitz are fast making a name for themselves and not far off becoming a household name. During my placement I was able to work on the actual shooting mechanics but I’d like to work my way up to get more responsibility for the core elements.”
Chris Jackson, Computer Games Design, is also at Blitz Games Studios as an Assistant Producer while Sam Gage, also Computer Games Design, has gone to Climax Studios as a Level Designer
Sarah Jones, Computer Games Design, is at Asylum as a Game Designer
2009 Film Technology graduate Sophie Dewing, who was a member of the student team nominated for the Royal Television Awards for their production of the comedy panel show Hot Off The Press, went on to work at BBC Vision and is now working on a documentary for the National Geographic Channel with the company Inclusive Digital TV in London.
" When you get a good grade at university you feel as though you've achieved but to get the recognition as well from industry itself for our programme we feel as though it's maybe not a dream and we really could be successful in industry! What's amazing about the module is it's exactly like it is in the industry , the fact wthat we could replicate the real world in the university was fantastic and having a whole television studio to ourselves to use the technology and production skills was exciting to do".

Michael Knowland, Computer Games Design, is now a 3D Artist with Frontier while Joe Deuchar from the same award is a Technical Artist at Monumental Games and Darren Labithiotis, also Computer Games Design is working for Waterfront Games.
Rana Darwesh, BSc(Hons) Film Production Technology, is the camera operator on Law and Order while James Knopp BSc(Hons) Digital Film and 3D Animation Technology, is now working at Envy Post in London (not the first faculty graduate that they've employed) and has produced the October 2009 cover for the film and television magazine Televisual.
2008 Film Technology graduate Andy Robinson won the 2009 Royal Television Awards Regional Awardfor Digital Innovation Award. He is an editor and animator for ST16 from Sugnall near Stafford and they won for a road safety film entitled Speed Dating which has had over 4.5 million hits on You Tube. Daniela Campos Little, who also graduated from from Film Technology in 2008, has an impressive list of credits as a matchmove artist on a number of productions including 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', 'Clash of the Titans', 'Where the wild things are' and 'Avatar'.
Other Film Technology graduates have done equally well for example Matt Holmes is now a BBC studio camera operator while Andrew Hargraves has edited for the Sky History Channel and is now editing for ITV1.
Vikki Rutter has been an ITV1 Floor Manager for The Jeremy Kyle Show for past four years, but also works at BBC Manchester. Alex Szygowski works for BBC Visions (3D Effects)
Peter Burch, Rob Knight & Kylie Stanton all joined Envy Post in 2010 while Hannah Gardiner and Gemma Flaherty worked one The History Channel's 'How Britain Bridged The World documentary'. Gemma Flaherty also worked and gained broadcast credit on Sky's Great Train Robbery, which gained a nomination from the Royal Television Society 2009 for Best low budget documentary.
Jess Brown was a runner on the factual documentary series Britain's Biggest Heists for The History Channel and Crime and Investigation Channel while Natalie O'Rourke is a full time editor at Libra Productions in Manchester.
Simon Partington is working in editing and visual effects for Flix in Manchester
Michael Pettyt top student of the year 2009 and winner of the Manchester 'How Do Awards in 2009/10' is now at BakerMedia in Manchester

Martin Garland, Design Technology for Robotics graduate, is now working at EADS Astrium on the Mars Rover. Martin's final year project was an all terrain robot spider (PDF, file size: 331.8KB) with which he won prizes at GradEX08 and the IET's West Midlands University Challenge.
BEng (Hons) Mechatronics graduate Ahmed Oshinibosi completed a placement at Klarius UK Ltd and then on graduation went to work with Thyssenkrupp Automotive as a Graduate Design Analyst.

'I started an internship at Universal Music Group in June 2010 with Polydor Records and have been ...promoted to a full time Digital Marketing Assistant... some fantastic projects including All time low, Jimmy Eat World, Bryan Adams ... It means I'm assisting on some huge campaigns, with some really experienced campaign managers including the new Take That album & Duffy's new album - so it's been fantastic and just keeps getting better! Working for a Major Label had always been a goal of mine... being able to work at the biggest label in the UK, blast music all day, go to some great concerts, meet amazing people AND get paid for it is fantastic" Olivia Hobbs BSc(Hons) Music Technology with Management.
Jay Kerr graduated from the same degree and is now vice president at international music distribution company DittoMusic. "...my current role where I am in charge of European business development and am directly responsible for the heading up label relations.
Ditto as a company have hugely expanded from 4 people working in an office in Birmingham to become one of the largest independent distributors of music in Europe and have recently opened up a satellite office in the USA and will follow with an Australian HQ by winter 2011. So working in the planning releases, marketing campaigns around them and being directly involved with labels and artists is a dream for me, getting paid to work with music ain't bad at all."
