Research Ethics

Welcome to the Faculty of Health/Faculty of Sciences Ethics web page which is designed to help researchers requiring ethical approval for a research project. All staff and student projects requiring approval are subject to review by the Faculty through the Independent Peer Review process, the Ethics process or Fast Track approval.

We hope that you will find the following useful and if you are a student, you are embarking on a valuable and interesting project.  The process is time consuming but will help you develop a more rigorous proposal.  You should make full use of your supervisor and where appropriate the R&D experts within the NHS, Social Services, or other agency you are involved with.  For staff who are engaged in research we also hope that the following will provide you with the necessary information, but colleagues from your Faculty Ethics Committee will help where possible.

For NHS projects - once Independent Peer Review and University procedures have been completed, forms can be accessed through the Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) www.myresearchproject.org.uk/  which has brought together many government departments, research councils and charities, such as the Wellcome Trust.
