Nigel Meadows

Nigel is the Chief Coroner for Manchester City, one of the largest coronial districts in the UK.  He is a former student of this University, and practised as a solicitor in the south before securing this highly coveted position.

There are many high profile deaths into which Nigel has had to carry out a coroner’s investigation, particularly well-publicised cases where deaths have taken place in suspicious circumstances, or in circumstances where there may have been fault on the part of other services.  Part of the coroner’s role is to highlight where improvements can be made to agencies or organisations surrounding deaths.

Nigel has worked to highlight to youngsters the dangers involved in the misuse of drugs and has featured in articles at both local and national levels in relation to this work.

In addition to being able to analyse carefully the circumstances surrounding death to formulate solid conclusions if possible, coroners perform a vital role in relation to enabling families to move on from the tragic loss of a family member.  The fact that Nigel has been appointed to one of the largest coronial districts nationally highlights his acute expertise in handling such sensitive and difficult issues.
