Law Careers

As a student at Staffordshire University we aim to give you hands on careers advice tailored to your individual needs. We run a programme of events and advice clinics to help you maximise your chances of securing a training contract. As well as working with the central university careers centre, we recognise the need for advice from solicitors in practice and graduate recruiters. We have a guest speaker programme featuring trainees as well as recruiters from a variety of firms so you can gain an insight into the life of a trainee in practice.

We also run careers workshops and large group sessions to help you recognise the skills you have and how you can make them appeal to employers. Workshops are run on subjects such as CV drafting, how to write a covering letter and application forms, as well as interview techniques.

We hosted the first Careers Event in a University by the Black Solicitors Network which gave students an insight into the recruitment practice of large city firms as well as the smaller high street firms and in house positions. We have established links with the local Junior Lawyers Division group which is very active in the area. A number of our former students who are in practice in the Stoke on Trent area help to run this group. All LPC students are given automatic membership of the JLD.

We are well placed through our links with practice to help you in your search for a training contract, whether it is a part time study training contract or a full time contract for when you have completed your LPC with us.
