Becoming a solicitor

If you are considering a career as a Solicitor you will follow either Route A, B or C as follows:

Route A;
This is probably the most common route that students take before qualifying. If you choose to study the LL.B and LPC full-time the LL.B will take three years and LPC 1 year to complete. Training Contracts will take a maximum of two years to complete. Therefore, you will qualify as a solicitor in six years. Part-time students will take four years to complete their LL.B, two years for the LPC and two years to complete their Training Contract, taking a total of eight years before qualifying.

Route B;
Students holding a non-law degree are still able to train as a Solicitor. After completing your non-law degree students must then study the CPE (Common Professional Examination). This award is a law conversion course and enables students to study the ''core'' law modules within one year of full-time study or two years part-time study. Full-time students following this route will qualify within seven years and part-time students within ten years.
