Career timetable

Level One

Level One 
Visit and utilise the University Careers Service based in the Cadman Building by the main library on College Road.
Maintain regular contact with Personal Tutor and keep them informed of any academic and personal developments.
Get involved in moots, client interviewing, university clubs and societies, committees, voluntary work etc…
Apply for work experience in legal setting over Easter/Summer vacations.  Please Note – Many firms have strict timescales for work experience applications – do not leave it too late!)
Draft CV and keep a record of personal/academic achievements throughout the year.
Attend Careers Events – you will be provided with details of these. 
  
 
 

 

Level Two

Use Careers Service and website to research training and employment opportunities.
Maintain regular contact with Personal Tutor – keep them informed of developments and achievements.
Continue involvement in law school activities such as mooting, client interviewing, negotiation, committees, voluntary work etc….
Organise additional work experience in legal setting over the Easter/Summer vacations and seek alternative work experience if unsure as to career direction.
Research information about firms you may apply to for training contracts, pupillage, graduate opportunities, etc…
Update CV and practise preparing covering letters (if in doubt ask Personal Tutor to check)
Attend Careers Events - dedicated workshops on "Becoming a Solicitor" and "Becoming a Barrister" are organised during Semester One.

Level Three/CPE

Use Careers Service and websites to research training and employment opportunities.
Continue to get involved in Law School/University activities and societies.
Continue to build-up work experience profile – link this to CV.
If intending to apply for LPC/BVC, or any other postgraduate course requiring completed paperwork, obtain necessary documentation on time – remember many courses now require applications to be submitted in electronic format on-line.
Ensure that references are requested in good time from Personal Tutors.
Research funding opportunities e.g. postgraduate loans, sponsorships, scholarships, etc…
Job applications – research recruitment strategies/policies of individual firms.
Attend Careers Events – dedicated workshops on "Becoming a Solicitor" and "Becoming a Barrister" are organised for Semester One.
