Facilities
The Legal Practice Course enjoys excellent facilities in dedicated accommodation within the Law School building and adjacent to the Law Library.
The Practice Offices
Upon enrolment you will be allocated to one of the Practice Offices which will also be the room used for all your workshops. These facilities are provided exclusively for Legal Practice Course students. You may use your Practice Office for private study at any time during the Library opening hours except when the room is being used for teaching purposes. From 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings certain of these rooms will be used for the delivery of the part-time mode of the Legal Practice Course.
Each Practice Office is equipped with state-of-the-art computers served by one laser printer for the exclusive use of the students assigned to that office. The Microsoft Office suite of programmes is available on the Practice Office computers along with "Laserforms". You will also be able to access the Internet, e-mail facilities, and a comprehensive range of "practitioner" CD Roms and PLC on-line.
Frequent use is made of Starboard and also of Visualisers, both of which are available in all the Practices Offices. Thses are excellent teaching tools are utilised by teaching staff in many workshops. One of the main uses is to project, for example, items of work completed by students during workshops onto the screens provided in the Practice Offices.
Lecture Theatres
Course lectures will take place in the Ashley Building, adjacent to the Law School. These lecture theatres seat up to 200 students each and are equipped with the latest audio visual and computer technology. Some of the smaller lectures may also take place in Courtroom 2 (Room LW 140) on the first floor of the Law School building.
The Law School building also houses a "flagship" mock courtroom and small presentation lecture theatre on the first floor.
Information Technology
A key feature of our Legal Practice Course is the use of Information Technology and a development of the appreciation of the increasing importance of this element in the modern legal office. To this end, each Practice Office also contains personal computers served by a laser printer for the exclusive use of the students assigned to that office. Apart from word-processing facilities, a comprehensive range of electronic precedents and full Internet access is available. Comprehensive IT training is given in the Foundation Course and all students are allocated e-mail addresses.
