FaroARM Non Contact Laser Scanner
The recent purchase of a FaroARM non contact laser scanner has allowed the development of a number of opportunities for the University.
FARO‘s portable measuring arms make measuring complex objects easy. This includes alignment, calibration, inspection, reverse engineering and as-built documentation with an accuracy up to 16 microns.

The ability to scan accurately any object and examine the model and data generated affords a number of advantages. There is also the opportunity to rapid prototype or recreate the scanned object in a number of different materials.
It allows that object to be studied even when the object is no longer available, or of the object is friable and no longer exists, or if the object is so precious as to preclude it movement from ne site to another. The data can be sent anywhere in the world and used by different groups of researchers or other groups investigating product development or technological innovation across the scientific spectrum.

The scanner is available for use by any appropriate organization and technical assistance is available for scanning and post scanning data manipulation.
This web page will show you some of the projects for which a laser scanner has been used. Also for more technical information refer to www.faro.com/measuring-arms
If you feel there is a possible application of this equipment for you, please feel free to contact John Cassella for a discussion or demonstration of its use and flexibility.
