Psychology in the News

- David Galbraith appeared on Radio 4's "Questions Questions" on 29th May talking about the psychology of creative writing and on Radio Stoke's mid-morning show on 2nd June talking about his research with Marielle Leijten on eye-movements in writing.
- In August Dr. Ceri Parsons carried out the following radio interviews: BBC Radio Tees (Superstition/Friday 13th), BBC Radio Essex (Dominant representations of body image), BBC West Midlands (context dependant use of language with the poet laureate), BBC Radio Stoke (Behaviour in context, British people holiday overseas), BBC Radio (bystander apathy in instances of crime), Independent radio news (understanding animal cruelty).
- Ceri Parsons also took part in an interview for Psychologies magazine for their 'solutions' page on aspects of communication which is going in the October issue.
- Ceri Parsons has also written the media page for the August edition of The Psychologist, a BPS Journal.
Student News

The psychology student Graduation Ceremony in July was a great success. We were delighted to award a number of prizes at Graduation:
Chriso Kleanthous: BPS Undergraduate Prize (for highest achievement on an Undergraduate Psychology course).
Victoria Aldridge: Faculty of Sciences Prize for best Undergraduate Project in Psychology.
Lisa Cowap: Faculty of Sciences Prize for best Undergraduate Project in Psychology, runner up.
Neil Phillips: Faculty of Sciences Prize for best Postgraduate Project (shared).
Adam Gater: Faculty of Sciences Prize for best Postgraduate Project (shared).
Congratulations to all of you who graduated in 2008!
Recent Publications and Presentations

- David Galbraith and Veerle Baaijen presented papers on the role of working memory in writing and on the effects of dyslexia on undergraduates' writing at the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction's SIG Writing conference, 9-15 June, Lund, Sweden.
