Geography

Geography at Staffordshire University has been consistently highly rated by the Student Satisfaction Survey, the Guardian higher education league tables and the Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency. The QAA identified more strengths at Staffordshire University than any other geography department in the country. In particular, the QAA recognised the supportive, student-centred learning environment that we provide to meet the diverse needs and competencies of our students.
Geography department 8th out of 62 departments across the country in the Guardian rankings 2011.
We offer a range of innovative and flexible undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that deliver fresh, original and contemporary courses e.g. sustainable development / management, mountain leadership. This year in Geography we are making some exciting changes to our award structures, that will build on the quality learning experience we offer to students studying with us. As part of these changes, we are no longer offering our awards in Physical & Environmental Geography and in Human & Environmental Geography through UCAS. However, students who are interested in studying on these routes can now do so as part of our newly revised single honours BSc Geography (Physical) and BA Geography (Human) awards. If you are thinking of applying to us and would like some more information, please contact the Geography admissions tutor Allan Watson at a.watson@staffs.ac.uk
Our excellent teaching and learning is supported by staff who as part of the Institute for Environment, Sustainability and Regeneration, have completed research projects for the European Commission, Health and Safety Executive, Earthwatch, local government and the private sector.
New postgraduate courses (MSc Sustainability and Natural Resource Management, MSc Sustainability for the Urban Environment)
have been developed as Joint Masters awards with the University of Madras, exclusively for candidates from the Indian sub-continent.
