Disputes and the law

A growing problem in HEIs is the 'dispersed' character of their administration. Specialist units dealing with human resources, student matters, quality assurance, estates and so on may not be fully aware of the implications of matters their colleagues in other units deal with routinely.

Nor do academics and administrators necessarily understand the overarching structures or the ways in which public policy trends are driving change. The material in this part of the website is intended to provide a brief outline of aspects of the running of universities which might usefully form part of briefing sessions for new employees and for student sabbatical officers.

We hope that it will also serve as an introduction to the 'Higher Education' world for practising mediators interested in work in Higher Education Institutions.

It includes links to resources which will be helpful in considering how to prevent and resolve disputes arising within HEIs and in connection with their operation. We shall be glad to be told of any additional relevant links which might usefully be added.
