> Susie Andretta
Senior Lecturer in Information Management, London Metropolitan University. Susie has been working within the field of information literacy education for the past ten years, integrating this in a range of disciplines and at all levels of provision. She has recently published a book Information literacy: a practitioner’s guide (2005) which presents information literacy as a foundation of independent and lifelong learning, and explores the impact of this approach on the facilitator and the learner, illustrating its empowering effect. She has recently edited a special issue on information literacy commissioned by Italics, the online journal of HEA-ICS, entitled Information literacy: challenges of implementation (January 2006) which looks at the problems of employing the IL framework of learning within the education sector as a whole.
The paper she presented at the conference aimed to establish IL as the new pedagogy of the question, reiterating the view that IL is about learning how to learn and that, because of this, it cannot be separated from the learning process, but should be used as a catalyst for educational change.
