Could you please supply me with the following information regarding fines received by the university�s library service for every academic year since 2004/05:
A. The total amount of fines issued by the university�s library service for overdue items.
B. The total amount of fines received by the university�s library service for overdue items.
C. The number of items unaccounted for by the university�s library service. Ie. Items loaned out and not returned.
D. The sanctions available to the university to recover i) the fines ii) the missing items.
E. Whether these sanctions have been used.

Answer - If a customer has item/s overdue, no further borrowing is allowed until the item/s are renewed/returned and the fines are paid. The exception to that is for a telephone renewal where items that are overdue can be renewed once and then the fine is expected to be paid before any further renewals/issues can take place.

Yes, these sanctions are used for all customers.

1 (a) The number of students at the university on LLB / BA Law programmes who, to the knowledge of the university, complained to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education (OIA) between January 1st 2010 and May 31st 2011.

(b) The number of students on LLB / BA Law programmes whose complaints were regarded by the OIA as wholly or partly justified.

(c ) In the case of those complaints which were regarded by the OIA as wholly or partly justified please provide all the information held by the university to which I am entitled under the FOI Act 2000 concerning the complaint, the formal decision of the OIA and its recommendation(s). Please provide copies of the written documents held by the university in which an offer of compensation was made to the student.

The number of students on LLB / BA Law programmes between January 1st 2010 and May 31st 2011 who, having made a complaint to the university, (whether or not to the OIA), were awarded compensation by the university in respect of the complaint. In each case, please provide all the information held by the university to which I am entitled under the FOI Act 2000 concerning the complaint and the amount of compensation awarded. Please provide copies of the written documents held by the university in which an offer of compensation was made to the student.

One student made a complaint regarding the supervision of a dissertation and was offered a compensatory payment of �200. This was not accepted by the student who, instead, preferred to continue with their award.

Yes, we have specific halal counters within the university and advertise the fact that this product meets the needs of our Islamic students.
