18 August 201516 September 201516 September 2015Conducting an academic research project on the student study environment. To this end, I would be grateful if you could provide the following information for each subject area and for the university as a whole, providing a snapshot for the 2014-15 academic year as close to July 2015 as possible.

We would like you to align the information to the HESA cost codes by populating the attached spreadsheet. Where the organisation of courses does not map directly to certain cost codes, please use your judgement to convert them to the closest match, aggregating across programmes and areas or departments as necessary. Naturally, it will probably be the case that not all of the subject areas are covered at your institution and therefore please leave blank any that do not apply. I also attach the HESA cost codes.

The figures we require are - all of them for each HESA cost code subject area and for the institution as a whole:
1. The total no of teaching staff (FTE equivalent) - i.e. The total number of FTEs involved in the delivery of programmes in that cost-code area.
2. The percentage of the response to 1 who are women
3. The percentage of the response to 1 who are full professors
4. The percentage of the response to 1 who are employed on a sessional contract, which we define as those who are employed on an annual, more than 0.2FTE non-continuing basis to teach only.
5. The percentage of the response to 1 who are employed in a teaching-only or teaching-intensive role, which we define as one where the post holder has no formal expectation that they will conduct academic research
6. The percentage of the response to 1 who hold a formal teaching qualification such as membership of the Higher Education Academy or an equivalent, or a PGCE or an equivalent.
7. The median age of the teaching staff, again by HESA cost code subject area.
8. The median number of years of service at your institution of the teaching staff, again by HESA cost code subject area.
If this request is unclear, I would be grateful if you could let me know this, as I understand that under the FOI Act, you are required to advise and assist
