12 students to be honoured at Young Creative Network Awards

A stronghold of 12 BA(Hons) Advertising and Brand Management students are to be bestowed with awards at this year’s Young Creative Network Awards.

Staffordshire University has earned unprecedented success with the 12 students set to pick up their awards at September’s ceremony, which is to be held at the Marriott Hotel in London’s Grosvenor Square.

Second year student Paddie Cunliffe was given a brief to reinvent the customer experience at supermarket Morrisons. The 20-year-old from Reading said: “We had a selection of briefs to choose from and this seemed the most appealing.

“We had to write our pitch into a document and it’s great that we’ve won, I got an email this morning and it’s pleasing to see.

“I want to get my name out there in my final year and build up my portfolio and get a good placement.

“The course does a lot to get your name out there and you get more than just a degree,” he added.

Jack Camilatto 20, a second year student from Windsor created an advertising campaign for pet insurance company PetPlan with the brief centred on being as creative as possible.

“We came up with the idea of having a huge ark, like Noah’s Ark but called PetPlan Ark, the ark would travel around Britain visiting all of the harbours and people would be able to go on-board and take part in activities and get pet insurance.”

Award winner Alex Reece from Wigan completed a copywriting brief; this involved enhancing the in-store messages for women’s clothing store Oasis.

Alex, 20 said: “There were in-store messages about PayPal and joining their Facebook page for example, we looked at these through mind-maps and mood boards, we wanted to find out who an Oasis woman is and suit their needs.

“It’s exciting to be acknowledged and this is more than just an award because it is something that is recognised by people in the industry and we can put it on our CV,” she explained.

Final-year BA(Hons) Advertising and Brand Management students will be showcasing their work at this year’s Show and Tell 2014 Art and Design Show. Pictured are final year degree students Luke Edginton and Kerry Wedgwood who worked on an interactive app to be used in fashion store Oasis and which uses graphology, the study of handwriting, to determine a girl’s personality and sense of style.
