Counting down to UK City of Culture 2021

The waiting is almost over and this week we find out if Stoke-on-Trent will be UK City of Culture 2021. For now, we urge our connected University community to continue banging the drum for our great city.

UK City of Culture 2021 is something that could bring fantastic investment and jobs to our area and if ever there was a time to be Proud to be Staffs, this is it. And if you’re in any doubt, view and share the official bid film which has been compiled by graduate film company Reels in Motion.

Tomorrow Stoke-on-Trent’s UK City of Culture 2021 team arrive in Hull ahead of their presentation to the judges on Wednesday. The big announcement will be made live on the One Show, on BBC One from 7pm on Thursday, December 7. Here at the University we are hosting a reception for the live announcement which is taking place in the Digital Kiln on College Road from 5.30pm. Although places are limited, anybody wanting to attend can contact public@staffs.ac.uk.

We ask you all to help us make some noise on social media on judging day, Wednesday, December 6, and post as much as possible about what makes Stoke great – taking care to use the official #sot2021 and #CityofCulture2021 hashtags as well as #StokeonTrent and tag in @DCMS. We’d particularly like you to step up your support on social media between 12pm and 1pm on Wednesday, December 6.

As a University, we are part and parcel of Stoke-on-Trent’s bid for City of Culture 2021 and together, we make the city!
