"This honour is well deserved as David is absolutely committed to Higher Education and our vision to be a connected University."
Professor Liz Barnes, Vice-Chancellor
Staffordshire University Chair of Governors David Gage said he enjoyed an "incredible day" when he was awarded an MBE by the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace.
David, who has served on the University's Board of Governors since 2009, and as its Chair since 2015, was recognised both for services to business and Higher Education in the Queen's Birthday Honours announced in June.
David joined singer Sir Rod Stewart and around 60 others recipients for the investiture at Her Majesty The Queen's London residence.
He added: “It was a truly memorable day and it put Staffordshire University on the map. I regard the award as acknowledgement of the great work we're doing at Staffordshire University as well as for my other activities.
“Prince William was wholly attentive and very generous with his time and he asked about the University and its students. The Palace does this extremely well with the courtiers, military attendants and everyone being very attentive and congratulatory.”
An ambassador for the county, David worked in senior roles at NatWest Bank PLC until early retirement in 2000 and has since committed himself to supporting activities across the county, not least as a Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire and as Chair and Deputy Chair of The Stafford Railway Building Society.
He has recently been appointed Chair of Lichfield City Centre Development Partnership Board and a member of the Leadership, Governance and Management Strategic Advisory Committee of the Higher Education Funding Council For England.”
Staffordshire University Vice-Chancellor Professor Liz Barnes said: “This honour is well deserved as David is absolutely committed to Higher Education and our vision to be a connected University. We welcome David's continued challenge and leadership as Chair of the University's Board of Governors.”
David was accompanied to Buckingham Palace by his daughter Vikki Fenton and son-in-law Mark Fenton.
