Degree helps Kimberly launch new social enterprise

"Visit from the Stork will have interesting articles, real-life features and news and information to inform young parents about subjects they need to know about and tackle the issues they face every day."

Kimberly Bond, BA(Hons) Journalism

Kimberly Bond immersed herself into life in Stoke-on-Trent during her journalism degree at Staffordshire University – digging out the exclusives at the heart of the community.

Her most memorable scoop, she says, was getting the inside track ahead of the "March on Stoke" event which attracted up to 1,000 residents voicing their anger at the proposed £40 million move of Stoke City Council’s civic offices and 2,000 employees to Hanley.

21-year-old Kimberly, from Peterborough, graduated with a first class degree in BA(Hons) Journalism.

She said: "I stayed in Stoke-on-Trent when the course broke up for Christmas and New Year and I received a tip-off over social media that something might be brewing.

"I started investigating a little further and attended a meeting which had been organised, clearly the residents were angry and I was able to break the story that they planned to march ahead of anyone else."

During the course, Kimberly also volunteered her time with 6 Towns Community Radio station, student station One Media Radio, and had articles published in The Independent.

Kimberly is now looking to grow her social enterprise website Visit from the Stork, which is dedicated resource targeted at giving advice to young parents.

"It is written specifically for young mums under 25 and is backed up by advice and knowledge from experts in the industry, who understand the needs of young parents."

"Visit from the Stork will have interesting articles, real-life features and news and information to inform young parents about subjects they need to know about and tackle the issues they face every day."

Kimberly's new venture is being supported by the Staffordshire University’s Speed Plus Scheme.
