Finalists in prestigious education sector awards

"It's the icing on the cake to be nominated for this award. It shows that the effort that goes into putting our students first is being recognised by the people who matter most to us."

Professor Liz Barnes, Vice-Chancellor of Staffordshire University

Staffordshire University has been shortlisted in the Most Improved Student Experience category in the Times Higher Education Awards 2017.

Around 20,000 students were polled by student market research specialists YouthSight to rate the academic reputation, teaching, social life and facilities of their institutions.

Staffordshire University Vice Chancellor Liz Barnes has welcomed news of the shortlisting.

Professor Barnes said: “It's the icing on the cake to be nominated for this award. It shows that the effort that goes into putting our students first is being recognised by the people who matter most to us.

“It's also a vote of thanks to our brilliant and friendly staff who are whole heartedly committed to helping our students succeed and who all play their part in helping to develop and support individuals throughout University and beyond.”

Overall winners will be announced at a special gala ceremony for the 13th annual THE Awards which take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London on Thursday 30 November 2017.

THE editor John Gill said: "All those shortlisted can be immensely proud to have made it through this first phase, and we at Times Higher Education look forward to honouring the winners for their talent, creativity and commitment at a time for the academy when these qualities are increasingly essential."

• Staffordshire University was awarded a 'silver' award for its learning and teaching in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) announced in June. Graduates from Staffordshire University are also among the most employable in the UK according to recent data. The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey (DLHE) published in July shows that 97.5 per cent of students who graduated from Staffordshire University last summer are employed or in further study.
